Why Eye Nutrition

Your eyes need nutrition, too.

Like the rest of the body, the eyes rely on nutrients obtained through the diet. Eye nutrition brings selected carotenoids, vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, botanical extracts and other compounds into a defined daily routine.

ORAVU provides this specialist approach in two softgels taken once daily. It is a nutritional supplement—not an eye drop, medicine or replacement for professional eye care.

Our Evidence Approach

Not all scientific evidence means the same thing.

1

Ingredient evidence

Research on an individual nutrient at a specific form, dose, duration and population.

2

Formula evidence

Research on a defined combination of ingredients and dosages.

3

Finished-product evidence

Research conducted on the complete finished product itself.

The publications linked on this page relate to individual ingredients or defined nutrient combinations. They should not be read as clinical trials on the finished ORAVU formula.

The Specialist Core

Three macular carotenoids at the centre of the formula.

Lutein, zeaxanthin and meso-zeaxanthin are the three carotenoids concentrated in the macula, the central region of the retina involved in detailed vision. Together, they form ORAVU's strongest specialist eye-nutrition foundation.

Science Without Shortcuts

Research guides the formula—not the marketing language.

The carotenoid core leads

Lutein, zeaxanthin and meso-zeaxanthin provide ORAVU's clearest specialist eye-nutrition foundation.

Dose and context matter

Ingredient form, daily dose, studied population, duration and measured outcome all shape how research should be interpreted.

Transparency comes first

Every active amount is disclosed so the ORAVU formula can be evaluated as it is—not as a hidden blend.

Why ORAVU Exists

Created around modern screen-heavy Gulf life.

Modern Gulf routines often mean long hours on phones, laptops and other screens, together with extended time in air-conditioned indoor spaces. ORAVU was created around that daily context, bringing specialist eye nutrition into one transparent routine.

Regional and UAE publications help explain the lifestyle context behind ORAVU. They do not test the product or establish that ORAVU treats digital eye strain or dry-eye disease.

Screen-heavy routines

Phones, computers, tablets and game consoles.

Air-conditioned spaces

Offices, homes, cars and indoor environments.

One daily routine

15 targeted nutrients in two softgels, taken once daily.

Macular carotenoids

Lutein, zeaxanthin, and meso-zeaxanthin: The basic and clinical science underlying carotenoid-based nutritional interventions against ocular disease

Progress in Retinal and Eye Research · 2016 · Scientific review

What was studied
The chemistry, physiology and clinical research surrounding all three macular carotenoids.
Why it is relevant
Explains why lutein, zeaxanthin and meso-zeaxanthin are concentrated in the macula and central to specialist eye nutrition.
Limitations
A review of the wider evidence base; it is not a study of ORAVU.
Macular carotenoids

Lutein, Zeaxanthin and Meso-zeaxanthin Supplementation Associated with Macular Pigment Optical Density

Nutrients · 2016 · Meta-analysis of 20 randomized trials

What was studied
Randomized trials involving healthy participants and people with age-related macular degeneration.
Why it is relevant
Found supplementation with macular xanthophyll carotenoids was associated with higher macular pigment optical density.
Limitations
Included different formulations, doses and populations; it is not evidence on the finished ORAVU formula.
Macular carotenoids

Enrichment of Macular Pigment Enhances Contrast Sensitivity in Subjects Free of Retinal Disease: CREST Report 1

Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science · 2016 · Randomized clinical trial

What was studied
105 adults with low macular pigment received lutein, zeaxanthin and meso-zeaxanthin or placebo for 12 months.
Why it is relevant
Provides human clinical evidence for the three-carotenoid combination that anchors ORAVU's specialist formula.
Limitations
The study used a different carotenoid ratio and did not evaluate the complete ORAVU formula.
Screen-use research

The effects of lutein/zeaxanthin on eye health, eye strain, sleep quality, and attention in high electronic screen users

Frontiers in Nutrition · 2025 · Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial

What was studied
70 adults using electronic screens for more than six hours daily received 10 mg lutein plus 2 mg zeaxanthin isomers or placebo for six months.
Why it is relevant
Directly relevant to screen-heavy adults and to two of ORAVU's core carotenoids.
Limitations
Some objective eye assessments improved, while self-reported measures and contrast sensitivity did not differ between groups.
Supporting formula

Effects of diet containing astaxanthin on visual function in healthy individuals

Journal of Clinical Biochemistry and Nutrition · 2023 · Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial

What was studied
60 healthy adults received 9 mg astaxanthin or placebo for six weeks.
Why it is relevant
Human research relevant to astaxanthin as an additional carotenoid in the ORAVU formula.
Limitations
The studied dose was higher than ORAVU's 4 mg, and significant findings were limited to selected outcomes and subgroups.
Supporting formula

Bilberry extract supplementation for preventing eye fatigue in video display terminal workers

Journal of Nutrition, Health & Aging · 2015 · Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial

What was studied
Office workers received 480 mg bilberry extract or placebo daily for eight weeks.
Why it is relevant
Examined bilberry in a screen-use context using objective and self-reported measures.
Limitations
The studied dose was substantially higher than the 50 mg included in ORAVU.
UAE & Gulf context

Digital eye health and behavioral determinants of screen use among university students in the UAE

Frontiers in Digital Health · 2026 · Cross-sectional UAE study

What was studied
463 university students across three universities in Ras Al Khaimah.
Why it is relevant
Documents extensive daily screen use and frequently reported eye-related symptoms in a UAE student sample.
Limitations
A university sample; it does not represent all UAE adults and did not evaluate ORAVU or any supplement.
UAE & Gulf context

The prevalence, severity, and risk factors for dry eye disease in Dubai

BMC Ophthalmology · 2021 · Cross-sectional Dubai study

What was studied
452 participants from university and hospital communities in Dubai.
Why it is relevant
Found high daily screen time above six hours was associated with dry-eye findings in the surveyed sample.
Limitations
Survey-based and not nationally representative; it provides lifestyle context, not product-efficacy evidence.
UAE & Gulf context

Dry Eye Disease in the Middle East and Northern Africa: A Position Paper on the Current State and Unmet Needs

Clinical Ophthalmology · 2024 · Regional expert position paper

What was studied
Consensus discussions among ophthalmologists on climatic, lifestyle and clinical factors relevant to the MENA region.
Why it is relevant
Supports the regional context behind ORAVU's focus on modern Gulf routines and environments.
Limitations
A position paper on dry-eye care; it did not test ORAVU or an oral eye-nutrition formula.
